ENSURE AFFORDABLE AND RELIABLE ENERGY
The US must develop a workable energy policy. We do not have a workable policy today. We must develop alternate energy sources and we must increase domestic oil, gas and coal production and nuclear energy while developing these alternate energy sources. China is drilling for oil 90 miles off the coast of Florida. Our laws do not allow us to drill for oil off much of our own coasts and elswhere. We have enough fossil fuel in the U.S. to be energy independent for decades. Instead, we are sending half a trillion dollars out of the U.S. each year to buy oil which could go into our economy and provide jobs. Our government subsidized "ethanol from corn" program makes no sense. It provides no energy gain. It requires more energy to produce it than it provides when it is used. Biofuels are heavily subsidized at taxpayer expense. They remove farmland from food production which causes food prices to rise. There is a food shortage crisis developing in Africa and other third world countries as a result.
The proposed "Cap and Trade" tax on capping and reducing carbon emissions would have no effect on climate change and would result in economic disaster, especially in the U.S. Once we had a successful "Man on the Moon in Ten Years" program. Now we need a success oriented "New Energy Source in Twenty Years" program. We need to stop sending oil money to those who terrorize us.
Drill here, drill now, pay less.
